Doing a job

Step by step from accepting to getting paid — including the check-in code and the photos you must not skip.

Back to the Jobber Guide

Every job runs through the same steps in the app. Follow them in order and the money looks after itself. Skip one — particularly the photos — and you'll be chasing it later.

The short version:

Accept → pick how you're travelling → "I'm on my way" → arrive → check-in code → before photos → do the work → after photos → Mark complete

1. How are you travelling?

Straight after you accept, the app asks. Pick one: Walking, Cycling, Driving, Bus or Underground.

This isn't admin. The customer sees a live ETA based on your answer, and if you pick Driving when you're actually getting the bus, their ETA is wrong and they'll be annoyed with you, not with us. Pick the real one.

2. "I'm on my way"

You land on a map screen with the customer's name and full address.

Before you set off you can send a heads-up — Now, 5, 10 or 15 min — which tells the customer when to expect you to start moving. Useful if you're finishing something else. It doesn't start the job.

When you actually leave, tap I'm on my way. From that moment:

  • The customer can see your live location and ETA on their map
  • The job is committed — cancelling from here on costs you the whole job (see If things go wrong)

Your location is shared only while you're travelling. It stops automatically when you arrive or the job ends, and you'll see your phone's location indicator the whole time. You can turn background sharing off in Account → Safety & trust, but the customer then loses live tracking.

There are buttons on this screen to open your usual navigation app, and — if you're driving somewhere without free parking — links to pay for parking.

Need to reach them? The phone icon connects you through our system so your real number stays private. The message icon opens the in-app chat. Keep it in the app; that's the record if anything is ever disputed.

3. Arriving

When you're close the app will ask if you've arrived. Or tap I've arrived yourself.

If you're more than about 300 metres from the address it'll double-check with you first — usually that means you're at the wrong entrance, or the pin is slightly off.

Tapping arrived tells the customer you're outside. Then find them, be polite, and get the code.

4. The check-in code

Ask the customer for their 4-digit code. It's on their screen. Type it into the four boxes and tap Check in & start job.

This is the moment the job officially starts. It proves you're at the right address with the right person, and it's what protects you if they later claim you never showed up.

If the code doesn't work, you've either got a digit wrong or you're at the wrong job. If the customer can't find their code, they can see it in their app under the booking.

5. Before photos — required, and easy to forget

Immediately after checking in, the app asks for before photos. Please take them within five minutes, before you touch anything.

You cannot mark the job complete without them. That's deliberate. Before-and-after photos are the single best protection you have — if a customer later says you broke something or didn't do the work, the photos settle it in seconds. Without them it's your word against theirs.

Take one to four. Show the state of the space as you found it. Bad light is fine; missing photos are not.

(Dog walks work slightly differently — you'll be prompted to send walk photos to the owner during the walk, which they love, then finish with after photos as usual.)

6. Doing the work

Do what was agreed, to the standard you'd want in your own home. Beyond that, two things come up a lot:

You need more time

Tap Request more time and pick 15, 30 or 60 minutes. The customer sees the extra cost and approves it before anything is added. Ask before you run over, not after.

You had to buy something

Tap Add an extra, describe it and enter what it cost. Again, the customer approves before it's charged.

Never take cash and never arrange work off the app. Not because we're precious about it — because the moment money moves outside the platform you lose payment protection, dispute cover and any comeback if they don't pay. It's also grounds for removal. See What we expect.

Something feels wrong

There's an Emergency button on the job screen. It offers Call 999 (which also alerts our team) and Alert BOB O JOB. Use it. Your safety comes before the job, always, and no one here will ever question you for walking away from a situation that felt unsafe.

7. After photos and Mark complete

When the work is done, take after photos — one to six — from roughly the same angles as your before shots. Then tap Mark complete.

The app runs an automatic check comparing your before and after photos. If it flags something it's only a suggestion — retake them or carry on. It never blocks your payment.

8. What happens next

You'll see a Job done! screen with your earnings and a Pending payout badge.

The job now sits as Awaiting customer confirmation. It's finished as far as you're concerned — you're waiting on the customer to confirm. In Jobs → Completed it shows as "Awaiting customer confirmation · payout pending".

If they don't confirm within about 30 minutes and haven't raised an issue, it confirms automatically and your money is released. You don't have to chase anyone.

Once it's confirmed you can rate the customer. Do it — customer ratings are how other Jobbers know what they're walking into, the same way their ratings help you.
